President Trump Formalizes His 2020 Re-election Campaign
Updated: Jul 18, 2019
It’s official, this week President Trump announced his intent to run for re-election in the 2020 election. And he did so with gusto, raising over $24.8 million towards his campaign in less than 24 hours.
$24.8 million usurps all other candidates’ initial tallies by almost 4x. When former Vice President, Joe Biden announced his candidacy in April, he raked in $6.3 million in his initial 24 hours. Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke collected $6.1 million followed by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders ($5.9M) and California Sen. Kamala Harris ($1.5M).
With 26 other notable candidates in the running, 2 of which are Republicans, the candidate pool keeps growing. Although we reference the most notable 26 candidates (plus President Trump), there are actually 745 candidates who have filed to run with the FEC - 260 Democratic, 97 Republican, 31 Libertarian and 14 Green Party Candidates.
Although there are rumors circulating, we have yet to see FEC presidential candidate filings from Kanye West, Ben Affleck, Dwayne Johnson, Roseanne Barr, Ron Perlman, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Cher, Alex Baldwin, Katy Perry, Chris Rock, Tim McGraw or Chris Rock.
